These boots are dedicated to Ben Milam. He was a leader of the Texas Revolution. He supported the Mexican Revolution of 1821 to secede from Spain, but was later imprisoned in Mexico at the start of the Texas Revolution. He escaped from prison and rode a horse to Texas until he died of exhaustion. He then crawled to Goliad where he was found by Texas soldiers. Having regained his health, he rallied the Texas army to advance in the Battle of San Antonio. He was shot and killed during a sniper's assault on the Milam Cypress (still on the River Walk in San Antonio).
